"The pain in my back eased considerably after regular practice of the techniques Sarah taught me".
Jane Lucas (On-line sessions with posturecoach)
Sarah is a calm and sensitive teacher, able to convey and personalise her knowledge. She was interested in my specific issues and responses as I progressed through the lessons. My focus of concern was lower back pain....Lifting my granddaughter and bending to garden worsened the pain, so we had a session covering how AT thinking could influence my movements.....The pain in my back eased considerably after regular practice of the techniques Sarah taught me.
I would highly recommend a series of online lessons with Sarah to anyone seeking a personalised and effective yet relaxing experience".

"It has been a revelation to me that I can release and lengthen my muscles through my thought processes without the need for physical manipulation."
Candida Lloyd (On-line sessions with posturecoach)
"Sarah has taught me to notice the way I hold and move my body and to let go of habits that do not serve me and cause pain (shoulder, hip, back). It has been a revelation to me that I can release and lengthen my muscles through my thought processes without the need for physical manipulation. Over several sessions we explored semi-supine in depth (who knew there was tension in my face!) and we looked at applying the same techniques to other areas in my daily life. It takes time to change the way we do things and Sarah's support was invaluable.
Her verbal guidance over Zoom was clear and effective - she went at exactly the right pace, giving me time to absorb what she was saying. Sarah has an extremely calm presence and reassuring tone which made me feel that I was in good (remote) hands.
I had feared that Sarah would tell me that the way I move, sit, stand etc was wrong and impose her own agenda for change - but this was simply not the case. Instead, she gently teased out my specific needs and checked in regularly to see how it was working for me. Sarah is clearly a very experienced teacher who wants the best for her clients.
As a result of our sessions, I have become more mindful of what does / does not work for me in the way I use my body. Semi-supine is an extremely simple and effective way of helping with all my niggling aches and pains caused by holding my body in a way that does not serve me. It has now become absorbed into my daily life."

"Years of ingrained habitual thinking driven by a 'jump-to-it' mentality don't come undone easily, but I'm moving in the right direction now."
Gill Adams (On-line sessions with posturecoach)
"I'm 70 and retired and started Alexander lessons with Sarah about three months ago. I 'now see' her (virtually) fortnightly. When I started I was in acute pain with my lower back - a long term problem dating back decades. Through the lessons and skills Sarah teaches me I feel as though I'm developing an extra sense that allows me to recognise when my muscles are gripping unnecessarily. This sense gives me the option to ease off and do things differently.
My back? It stopped being acute fairly quickly and reverted to a low grumble.
So much of my learning in these Zoom sessions is about how to to do physical tasks, even just sitting and walking more gently. Years of ingrained habitual thinking driven by a 'jump-to-it' mentality don't come undone easily, but I'm moving in the right direction now.
Sarah models the sort of kindness we all need to apply to our precious bodies. Lessons are structured and professional and give me a growing sense of control over my physical approach to everyday tasks; I think the lessons will result in a lasting and positive change for me".

"Sarah's verbal guidance is excellent and really thought-provoking"
Pat Hutton (Online sessions with posturecoach)
"My job involves working at a computer, sometimes quite intensively when I have deadlines to meet and this has caused me headaches, neck and jaw tension and also tension in my hands and wrists. I enjoy being outdoors and most days I like to go out running, but I have had various issues with my shoulder, knee and feet caused by muscular tension and injury. It doesn't get any easier as I head towards retirement age.
I'd previously found hands-on Alexander lessons really helpful for easing my muscular issues, as well as very relaxing and enjoyable. I wasn't sure about having Alexander lessons on-line, but on my first Alexander Zoom session with Sarah I could really see the benefits to this type of learning. The emphasis was more clearly on developing ways for me to use and apply the technique on my own away from the lesson. This proved a really good motivator for me and I've been able to use Sarah's simple coaching tips to practice regularly at home. We were able to look at my habits at the computer really easily in the Zoom lessons and Sarah quickly identified some simple changes I could make to reduce strain as I work. Sarah's verbal guidance is excellent and really thought-provoking.....
It's been really useful to come back for a follow-up course of lessons with Sarah after some time without any."

"...the pain reduced significantly, my mobility improved dramatically and I have returned to work".
Steve Morgan
"I went to see Sarah Matthews for Alexander Technique lessons whilst off work due to a painful and debilitating back injury. Sarah reassured me with a caring, confident and positive attitude as she explained the learning process and guided me with hands-on work through the practical lessons. The process was subtle yet profound. It was extraordinary to discover the degree to which I had developed unhelpful habits of movement and muscular tension. Learning to let go of old and unhelpful habits of tension and feeling more comfortable and at ease in my body was and is a most welcome experience.
After 3 lessons with Sarah, and by practising the self-help skills she has taught me the pain reduced significantly, my mobility improved dramatically and I have returned to work.
As well as being a significant factor in my recovery from back injury I am sure the skills I learnt will also serve me well in the future.
Thank you Sarah".

"...my energy levels and sense of well-being have improved considerably".

"Sarah is a great coach and I really enjoyed my 10 lessons with her. I was getting married and wanted to improve my posture - which had suffered from many years working at a desk - for the big day. With Sarah's help it improved significantly. I am now more relaxed too and my energy levels and sense of well-being have improved considerably. I highly recommend Sarah's Alexander Technique lessons".

"....a remarkable difference in my ability to reduce my own pain and tension levels".
Kate G
"I had 6 sessions with Sarah (two a week over 3 weeks) and noticed a remarkable difference in my ability to reduce my own pain and tension levels. The sessions were deeply restful and relaxing - and at the same time my energy levels went up due to releasing tension. I found The Alexander Technique as taught by Sarah, a hugely empowering tool with endless positive consequences that can be used in all situations. Thank you Sarah"!

"I have had problems with neck and back tension for a number of years. As a musician who plays violin I have constantly battled against neck and upper back pain.
I recently had a course of Alexander lessons with Sarah Matthews. Sarah's sessions were very helpful for my playing and general posture and well-being. Sarah's hands-on guidance and explanations were very relaxing and effective. Since the course with Sarah I have noticed a profound improvement in my posture, and better speaking and singing voice.
I would recommend Sarah Matthews as a great Alexander teacher who is able to help a person learn how to use the body with relaxed movement and increased self-awareness".

"Being able to apply the Alexander Technique.....has helped put less strain on my body".
Nick Pynn
".....I felt a noticeable improvement throughout 6 sessions. I found Sarah's way of taking me on a journey through suggestion, explanation, and reinterpretation created a very clear path to focus on, alongside the physical guidance.
Recently I have become an electrician and with this comes moving in tight spaces, lifting and gripping. Being able to apply the Alexander Technique to these occasions has helped put less strain on my body, and I am now finding it easier to engage the technique on a daily basis".

"Sarah's instruction.....is both gentle and effective".

"Sarah's instruction on the use of Alexander Technique is both gentle and effective. It filters into all aspects of movement, and life as a whole can be greatly improved by it's use. I have experienced both a release from tension and a desire to use this technique for the rest of my life. I cannot recommend her highly enough".

"I no longer have any pain in my neck or jaw and am finding continual improvement in my flexibility".
Pat Hutton
"I had been suffering from a tense and painful neck and jaw for some time when I booked in for an introductory lesson with Sarah Matthews. It was really interesting for me to learn how our own habits of tension can cause pain and restrict mobility. I found the gentle hands-on teaching in the lesson very relaxing. Sarah gave me some skills to practise at home and I practised these every day as she advised. Within a week my neck pain had all but gone. I also noticed that for the first time in ages I could turn my head to look behind me when reversing my car out of the drive and it didn't hurt!
After my second lesson with Sarah a friend commented that I looked taller. I now know that I'm not tensing my muscles so much and not pulling myself down as much either. The improvements in my posture make me feel better too.
The block of lessons I've booked with Sarah is proving really useful to keep the improvements going. Keeping up my daily practice really helps too. Now I'm learning to bend with more ease to help me avoid the shoulder pain and tension that I have had when gardening. I'm learning how to let go of tension to reduce stress. I'm also now applying my new Alexander skills to improve my running and to help me avoid strain and injury.
I no longer have any pain in my neck or jaw and am finding a continual improvement in my flexibility. It's great being able to make things better for myself with the skills I've learnt from Sarah.

"The idea that thought can and does influence the body seems completely logical to me".
Robert Golby
"I am a man in my late seventies.......I started to notice that the tips of my fingers in my right hand were becoming less sensitive and I felt like I had pins and needles all the time. Gradually this lack of feeling spread to my whole hand and then to my left hand.....My GP said he thought it was carpel tunnel syndrome so I went and had an operation to release pressure on my nerves. After several weeks no improvement was made. I was feeling very low and had all sorts of aches and pains.
It was at this point that I became aware that Sarah was a practitioner of the Alexander Technique. The idea that thought can and does influence the body seems completely logical to me so I decided to book some lessons with Sarah. She explained from the start how the muscles influence the skeleton. This can cause pain and unnecessary fatigue, and she made the link between habitual movement and these symptoms.....
She has shown me for example how even my eyes have muscles....and how my fingers are linked to muscles in my shoulders and this has helped me to know how to release some tension. It may be coincidence but for the first time in many months I feel that my right hand belongs to me and is starting to have more feeling.
I would thoroughly recommend the Alexander Technique and Sarah Matthews in particular. Thank you Sarah for a most pleasant and productive experience".
