​"I had been suffering from a tense and painful neck and jaw for some time when I booked in for an introductory lesson with Sarah Matthews. It was really interesting for me to learn how our own habits of tension can cause pain and restrict mobility. I found the gentle hands-on teaching in the lesson very relaxing. Sarah gave me some skills to practise at home and I practised these every day as she advised. Within a week my neck pain had all but gone. I also noticed that for the first time in ages I could turn my head to look behind me when reversing my car out of the drive and it didn't hurt!
After my second lesson with Sarah a friend commented that I looked taller. I now know that I'm not tensing my muscles so much and not pulling myself down as much either. The improvements in my posture make me feel better too.
The block of lessons I've booked with Sarah is proving really useful to keep the improvements going. Keeping up my daily practice really helps too. Now I'm learning to bend with more ease to help me 
avoid the shoulder pain and tension that I have had when gardening. I'm learning how to let go of tension to reduce stress. I'm also now applying my new Alexander skills to improve my running and to help me avoid strain and injury.

"I am a man in my late seventies.......I started to notice that the tips of my fingers in my right hand were becoming less sensitive and I felt like I had pins and needles all the time. Gradually this lack of feeling spread to my whole hand and then to my left hand.....My GP said he thought it was carpel 
tunnel  syndrome so I went and had an operation to release pressure on my nerves. After several weeks no improvement was made. I was feeling very low and had all sorts of aches and pains.
​It was at this point that I became aware that Sarah was a practitioner of the Alexander Technique. The idea that thought can and does influence the body seems completely logical to me so I decided to book some lessons with Sarah. She explained from the start how the muscles influence the skeleton. This can cause pain and unnecessary fatigue, and she made the link between habitual movement and these symptoms.....
She has shown me for example how even my eyes have muscles....and how my fingers are linked to muscles in my shoulders and this has helped me to know how to release some tension. It may be coincidence but for the first time in many months I feel that my right hand belongs to me and is starting to have more feeling.

I would thoroughly recommend the Alexander Technique and Sarah Matthews in particular. Thank you Sarah for a most pleasant and productive experience".
